Discussion based on a cooperative effort by the National Wildlife Federation and the Garden Clubs of Virginia.
Discussion Topics:
- The science of global warming, how it starts, how it works, the human contribution to other sources of warming.
- Differences among global cultures.
- Evidence from multiple science sources. Atmospheric effects, sea level rises, glacial and sea ice melting, effects on plants and animals.
- Documented effects in addition to warming: ocean acidification, insect invasions, increased drought, floods, weather events. Dead zones oceans and bays, incl. Chesapeake.
- Loss of wetlands and effects of that.
- Effects in Virginia now and projected with continued emissions of greenhouse gases.
- Threats to plant and animal populations and diversity as well as to food crops.
- $5 billion annual losses/year already.
