Topics discussed:
QuickBooks Upgrades, when are they necessary? Intuit requires upgrades every 3 years, but major changes to the software are not made each year. QuickBooks 2010 has lots of new features that may make an early upgrade worth it. New features we discussed were Email Marketing, better search options for lists, adding/editing multiple items and improved forms customization.
Set up Issues: We discussed the importance of setting your company file up correctly in the beginning to avoid problems down the road. Some issues can be easily corrected, but there are instances where the data needs to be completely redone to correct problems. We talked about how having someone help you get the correct system in place, keeps you on the right track for the future.
Technical Problems: We discussed how occasionally, technical issues can be frustrating and cost us valuable time and money and the frustration with technical support.
Why do I need QuickBooks? We discussed why a business might need QuickBooks when their current spreadsheets are working for them. Issues like payroll and complicated customer billings and accounts receivable would be much easier to do in software designed for those specific functions.
QuickBooks is easy to change: We discussed how this is both good and bad. It gives people flexibility and allows them to gain confidence while learning new software, or how to do accounting in the first place. However, this is a double-edged sword as it also allows for many mistakes when changing existing transactions. There is a fine line between being user-friendly and allowing sloppy recordkeeping.
