Notes:

More room around our table for diversity with non-profits and coming together for a community How do we “reset the table” so more people to be comfortable. How can we share more on a personal level and bringing in topics of diversity May not be able to change people with a peson already with their culture ingrained, but bringing awareness to the “younger” population is important and the younger population will be more willing to learn about. we are saying them and they for immigrants or someone from another country, in saying this are we already showing a power differential?

Latin Americans are scared about their status, we try so hard to get them out of the community and don’t ask for the green card. “Don’t be afraid to join a community organization like ruritan leagues, etc.” “We need to teach community how to fish, not constantly handing out the fish” -sometimes have people relying a lot on the services of the government, etc. and this is what he was saying teach to fish, not just give out the fish. It’s work, resources, and attentions, making people voices equal because your listening to them.

Consensus model is very key in meetings, etc. May slow process down but this allows both spanish and english speaking persons to be able to understand what is happening in the meeting. (translate what is said, both for sentences in spoke in spanish, and sentences are translated spoken in english) children and food are key conversation starters, ice breakers Importance of people understanding people at the most basic events, examples potluck, clinics, festivals.

If we limit ourselves then we limit the amount of people we can reach.

We addressed the different cultures, what about addressing the different classes? We need to find people who are different then themselves and relate to them. Money can be limitations Invitations to the summits shouldn’t be addressed as people with bleeding hearts, we want people from chamber of commerce, and getting some of the people who have powers to get here in these summits, so they can hear what is really going on in the community New Bridges events, learning about cultures in the community

Action Items:

Revive the potluck!!! International festival
