Notes:
There are many places in Harrisonburg that provide opportunities for the underprivledged. But they don’t cover everyone for various reasons because of alcoholism, previous arrests etc. The Mission of Education, People, Places and Things is to provide housing and counseling and education opportunities to the homeless community. A place were they can truly get the help they need. For example counseling for addictions, job training, G.E.D classes and etc Making people feel whole from the inside out so they can be productive citizens. Getting over the past and looking towards a brighter future. Several of the attendees have experienced homelessness and overcame it. To go forth with the program in the process of looking at a house to purchase/rent. Which would serve around 15 people in a 24 hours facility with 3 meals a day 7 days a week. In compliance with the city zoning laws. The program will relay on donations/fundraising to support the programs. In the future Education, People, Places, and Things program will be a non-profited organization with a 501(c)3 incorporated status. Several questions were proposed at the session-Alex recommended the program obtaining a 501(c)3 status-Who pays rent? sponsorship or sliding scale-perement place vs transitional housing ?zoning laws? any experience with salvation army at all?
